About World Table Tennis Day
World Table Tennis Day was first celebrated on April 6, 2015, aligning with the UN International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, to promote inclusion, community, and harmony through table tennis.
As of 2024, the official date has moved to April 23rd—the birthday of Ivor Montagu, founder of the ITTF and organizer of the first World Table Tennis Championships in 1926. The shift celebrates the sport’s historical roots and enduring legacy.
While some clubs continue to mark April 6 with peace-themed events, April 23 is now the official global date recognized by the ITTF Foundation.
